I am Koto Shimada, a British-Japanese, queer, female photographer based in South London.
My training includes a commercial photography programme at The Photography Foundation and a 5-month creative advertising course at D&AD Shift London, where I was in the winning group for a brief set by Diageo. Additionally, I was selected for the D&AD Shift Select internship at creative agency MOX, where I contributed to projects for Nike and Flannels.
My photography interests encompass fashion, music, and documentary styles. I have worked with companies including ESEA Music Group, Adidas, Diageo (Seedlip), Airbnb, and Haco Hair & Nails. I’ve also assisted on photography projects for Dr. Martens and other brands, further expanding my experience in commercial photography.
My work has been featured in Dekopon Magazine editions 2 and 4, Polyester Magazine, BRICKS Learner Platform, PRS's M Magazine, and UK Music.
I love integrating various artistic elements into my photography, whether it's adding illustrations or using my photos to create zines. My ultimate goal is to leverage all my skills to produce compelling and purposeful work.
